EPS Coupling Hyundai and Kia Bullet Type
The EPS coupling—short for Electric Power Steering coupling—is a small yet critical rubber component found in the Motor Driven Power Steering (MDPS) system of many Hyundai and Kia vehicles. Its main role is to absorb vibrations, reduce noise, and ensure smooth torque transfer from the steering wheel to the wheels.
Signs of EPS Coupling Wear:
Over time, the coupling can degrade due to wear and tear. Common symptoms of a worn EPS coupling include:
A knocking or clicking noise when turning the steering wheel
A loose or less responsive steering feel
No warning lights on the dashboard (since the issue is mechanical, not electrical)
This problem is commonly reported in Hyundai and Kia models manufactured between 2010 and 2017—such as the Hyundai Elantra, Sonata, Santa Fe, and the Kia Optima, Forte, and Soul.
Part Specifications:
Part Number: 56315-2K000FFF
Material: Reinforced HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene Rubber)
Type: Bullet type – a special design for better durability and easier installation
Replacement and Maintenance Tips:
Replacing the EPS coupling requires disassembling the steering column to access the MDPS unit. While some experienced DIYers may attempt the replacement themselves, it’s generally recommended to have it done by a professional mechanic due to the complexity involved. After replacement, steering angle sensor calibration may be necessary to ensure proper EPS functionality.
