The VVT solenoid valve controls the flow of engine oil to the Variable Valve Timing mechanism. Acting on commands from the Engine Control Unit (ECU), it adjusts the camshaft's rotational angle relative to the crankshaft in real time, allowing the engine to deliver the optimal balance of power, fuel economy, and emissions across different RPM ranges.
This part is designed specifically for the E4G16 engine family and is listed under part number E4G163611001 in the Chery parts catalog.
How It Works
The VVT solenoid is an electromagnetic valve that, driven by a PWM signal from the ECU, opens or restricts the flow of pressurized oil to the cam phaser piston. By varying oil pressure on either side of the phaser piston, the camshaft is rotated slightly, which shifts the opening and closing timing of the intake or exhaust valves.
Common Failure Symptoms
- Check engine light with fault codes related to VVT or camshaft timing
- Ticking noise or rough idle
- Loss of engine power, especially at higher RPM
- Increased fuel consumption due to incorrect valve timing
- Hard cold starts

Installation Tip
When replacing the VVT solenoid, it's recommended to also inspect the small oil filter screen located in the solenoid's oil passage. A clogged screen is one of the most common reasons a VVT fault code returns shortly after the solenoid itself has been replaced.
